Getting into the spirit of things

Y'know you're getting older when Halloween seems less exciting. JK!! I can't wait for Halloween ;3 October is the best month ever...EVER!!! I think I may go steampunk this year...we'll see :P

Anyways, I've been making lots of cute little halloween themed charms :D I babysat my nieces last night and we made a whole bunch of pendants for them to wear. it was really fun and there was paint EVERYWHERE. We made up cute little stories to go along with them too. Needless to say it was crazy good times <3 I'v been posting zombies cupcakes, candy corn, zombie toast, bats, skulls, and of course pumpkins in my Etsy Shop! I think I like the lighter brighter green for the toast rather than my dark version. Whatchall think?

Speaking of zombie toast. . .I'm currently working on a ZOMBIES TOAST tutorial lol. I'll post it on my deviant art as soon as I'm through editing it..or y'know actually start putting it together other than what I've got rattling around in my brain chaos right now ;]

So that's all for today my lovelies. I must get back to the fabulous world of being a couch potato and watching action flicks. Until next time...

Tick Tock

So, its been a day or so since I posted about my giveaway and NO ONE has responded lol. I'm a little worried to be honest. Its really easy to get a free charm too lol. There are three simple rules:

1. Like my Facebook "Page" (not the post)
2. Share the PAGE (not the post)
3. Post a bold word from the post below :3

*you just can't post a word someone else has already posted.

So yeah, the first three people to comment on the post that have met all three requirements get a free charm of their choosing shipped to them from me with love free of charge.

Well, I feel better now!! So, now that I go that off my chest we can continue with today s post :D Like I mentioned previously I made some zombie heart shaped brain pendants. I used this super cool mold I purchased from Danette Mullen. She has amazing/unique molds for resin, clay, etc. I had a really hard time getting the clay out of the mold though. It's made of a not so flexible plastic. I had to stick it in the fridge for a while to get it really hard and then popping it out was a nightmare. So, I recommend using a mold release on it or a thin layer of vaseline to aide you in releasing you're creation.

I can't decide if I want to outline the brains in black or keep it plain. I also doctored it up a bit by accentuating the holes on the zombie half with toothpicks making various sized holes and depths and then filled them in with black paint. I think I like hot pick better for the brains the light one? What do y'all think?

Zombie Cupcakes Go RAWR!!! (Freebie Post)

Hello friends!!! I know, I know, its be a LONG time since I've posted anything. A lot has happened in the last year or so. But, the good news is I'm back and I'm still making cute little clay creations :3

New things, I've branched out into the world of Steampunk!!! I love the sub-culture, its very fun. Our local Draft House does monthly events were dressing up is encouraged and I do just that lol.

Random, I know. Just wanted to let it out there that I'm back and ready to post helpful tips again as well as share what I've been making. And seeing how its "that time of year again" I have this years ZOMBIE CUPCAKES ready lol.

Yep, they have hot pink brains this year. And I opted for "O.o" eyes lol. I know, very descriptive use of words there ^_^' The previous two version are also available in my shop of course. I've also got some cute little zombie/brain heart pendants I'll be posting next around Wednesday.

Also, three lucky people will have a chance to win a free charm of their choosing from me :D The rules have been posted on my Facebook Page. Also, take a look at the charms on my etsy if you want to pick one out. My Etsy.

Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year Everybody!!

Wow, I honestly can't believe it. 2011! This year is gonna be a good one. I can feel it in my bones xD I have lots of resolutions but I won't bore y'all with them. I thought I would post some helpful clay books in today's post :3

Photobucket

The first one I'd like to talk about is called The Polymer Clay Cookbook. Its a super helpful polymer clay book that is full of step my step projects on how to make adorable miniature foods. Its a great book for beginners because it teaches you techniques like dusting with pastels to give foods a "baked" and "golden" look as well as shows you how to create all these wonderful adorable foods without having to buy expensive tools or molds! The book costs about $15 and you can find it anywhere in the U.S. like Borders, Barns and Noble as well as online! I recommend buying it used or online because you can usually get it cheaper >D

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Japanese books are the way to go if you want to explore the world of decoden crafts. The only draw back to these books are that they are in japanese :S I know I know y'all think I'm crazy for recommending these but they have wonderful step by step diagrams and pictures that are super easy to follow! They show you how to use measuring spoons to make ice cream scoops, tooth brushes to give clay the texture of breads and baked goods as well as how to use puff paints to mimic the appearance of thick syrups such as hot fudge (yum!)

The only problem is that these books are hard to come across. Online sites such as Etsy have vendors who sell these books but they are pricey :( Just make sure to compare prices and shipping before you purchase to make sure you're getting the best possible deal :D Pomadour24 Craft Cafe and BeautifulWork are two online etsy shops that sell these books. While they are pricey they are worth it in the long run.

So I hope that this post wasn't too boring. I hope to about about some of basics in my next post. Until then keep crafting y'all :3

Holy Cow 2010 Where Did You Go!?

Wow, 2010 really did fly by! So much has happened since I last posted on here. Phase II of zombie cupcakes did indeed come out cuter and better, well more morbidly cute that is. They were featured on a few websites during for halloween and they still seem to be my biggest sellers besides my rings. I'm also finished with school! Due to deadline issues though I won't actually get my diploma until May though :P I'll still call myself an anthropologist anyways xD I'm so excited. Next stop: masters!

I also found my wedding dress. Its lovely and I can't wait to walk down the aisle in it :* I've gotten pretty used to our apartment and its finally started to feel more like home. I've also discovered dance central which has been sucking up all my free time since Christmas lol. Yes, I may be addicted to it and we may need to have an intervention soon D:

I attempted to purchase a booth at a local craft store called Craftique but they want a seriously large amount of money each month that I'm afraid to sign a contract for. Its not that I don't think I would make my money back to cover the cost of the booth each month but that I'm scared I won't make much profit after that :/ While no one else in the location sells anything like what I make it seems its more for selling "antiques" and costume jewelry than charms and decoden items lol. Sigh, I guess I should at least try right :] Who knows, I could bring the business!

I also attempted to get a table at SanJapan , the local anime convention in my city but alas it sold out in 30 mins. I honestly cried when I found out since I'd missed my chance by 10 min. They only had 30 table though so I guess what else could I expect right. Next year I will get one though!! (Although, I think I said that last year too hahaha)

I sold charms at work for Christmas and made a little bit of money at least and my etsy shop has seemed to pick up a little bit :D I did do my first "trade" too, however, I haven't received my half of it yet. I'm starting to get worried :S I think I'm to gullible some times ^^' Hopefully, having said that, it will arrive tomorrow *crosses fingers* Anyways, here's a little pic of my charm tray at work!

I had signs all over it and one that said "great stocking stuffers" that everyone teased me about but hey its true! Cute little things like that are awesome to find if you give out stockings or get them! My future mother-in-law does awesome stuff like that lol and I look forward to that damn stocking every year xD I sold a WHOLE lot more than I did last year at the door though so that made me happy. It made me feel like I've improved somewhat. Some people even asked if I had bought them to sell which I guess in a way is a backhanded compliment no?

A friend of mine also commissioned me to make some charms for him as well, an otter, a raccoon, and a turtle. Since it had been a while since I'd made any animals I went crazy and made a whole bunch (which I'm still painting lol)

My GaiaOnline clay thread seems to be going well. I've got a few good lurkers and friends in there sharing their works and techniques with each other. Kawaii Clay Charms is what its called and if you have an account you should really check it out. Lots of helpful charm making tips and what not going on in there :] I post a new tutorial every month and have a small little themed contest as well, although those don't seem to be going smoothly ^^'

I guess I'll close this post out with my 2010 art summary to show my "improvement" over the year in my clay skills, I think it can best be seen in my steampunk works ;D

I hope y'all have a Happy New Year. My new years resolution for this blog is to make it more clay craft helpful lol like my gaiaonline thread. Wish me luck!

A New Semester

School has started! My last semester has started! Well, unless I can get an internship in the spring my last semester has started!! I'm excited. So far the year is a good one, granted its only been one week lol. I've mostly gotten over my copycat rant...I know I know, let is go :P

Well, sadly since its a new semester that means less time to devote to charms, I hope to crank out a few on the weekends but I can't promise anything. I did however finally get around to making a zombie related charm xD Behold! Zombie Cupcakes GO Rawr *drum roll*

I think they're cute. Phase II of zombie cupcakes will be better including things I forgot to put on these that I meant too lol (eg..blood splatter possibly some wiggly worms)

I finally got around to making those waffles I've been threatening to do. They didn't turn out as well as I had hoped but eh they're decent :D I haven't quite gotten the hand of the whole "browning" with pastels down yet and I can't find any fimo liquid clay thus my un-clear syrup :P

Finding the right shade of brown was difficult too. My first try restulted in chocolate instead of maple syrup xD I also attempted to get fancy and make heart shaped ones as well..not good times is all I've got to say about that matter lol! Once I've got a worthy batch I'll be sure to post them for y'all to see. Until then, take care!!

Annoyed (rant)

So, I never thought it would happen to me but it seems I have a charm copy cat. There is a thin line between making something your own and flat out copying and I feel like that line is being crossed. I don't mind if you look at my work and fashion yours after it but at least give credit where credit is due. Don't flat out post your work claiming it your own creation and then ask for my opinion on it...honestly...that's just embarrassing!

Of course I'm flattered that someone liked my work so much they thought they would try it out for themselves, however, I'm annoyed that they would try to pass it off as their own. No, they didn't steal my images which I am grateful for (and now I have to go an play ugly watermarks all over for fear of that happening) but they copy my creations almost to exact likeness. *sigh* I don't like complaining because I feel it really doesn't solve anything. blarg!

I guess I should be thankful that they tried to make their rain cloud look slightly different :P And no...making it a necklace doesn't mean its different because the original is a cell charm :P
